Heritage Architecture is a landscape film that plays over three 100' rolls of 16mm, loosely interweaving street scenes from Chinese and Taiwanese port cities through the interstitial space-time of alleyway homes, street markets, and festivals. In the city of Shanghai, heritage architecture is encapsulated within the petite bourgeois memory of longtangs; in Taiwan, this materializes through the spiritual economy of traditional temples. In the end, the hauntologies of these places are preserved in their heritage character which reveal simultaneously national, local, and personal histories that twist and turn alongside changing political powers and rapid urban development. -LJS

Filmed in the U.S. and Germany, Eisenman takes the viewer through several of his buildings, including the Wexner Center in Columbus, Ohio, while explaining his upcoming projects such as the Rebstockpark community in Frankfurt and the Max Reinhardt monument in Berlin. His predecessors and contemporaries offer praise and commentary on Eisenman's complex body of work including their own thoughts and theories surrounding his unique style.

This documentary recreates a genuine sense of the personal presense of the late modern architect, Paul Rudolph, and the ambience of his studio. Mr. Rudolph was widely recognized within the architectural profession as spontaneously brilliant, and the unchallanged master of space and the manipulation of form. The episode during the construction of the chapel at Emory University gives insight into the kinds of frustrations artists often suffer at the hands of short-sighted patrons. A fine film, based upon the reality it conveys, if for no other reason.
